KIDFEST 2010
MACARONI KID WILL BE THERE!

Kidfest 2010 is an annual FREE family event where children of all ages come together for a fun and unique day! The event will be held THIS Saturday, March 20th from 11 am to 4 pm at Conejo Creek Park North, 1379 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. Expected activities will include trucks, arts and crafts, dog agility show, sporting games, live music/DJ, train rides, inflatable jumpers, rock wall and more! This event is geared towards kids of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers. Kidfest also features a community expo with over 60 exhibitors and local vendors showcasing their products and services. There will also be a silent auction and raffle. Parking is also free but is limited - but there is plenty of parking across the street at the soccer fields.
BE SURE TO STOP BY THE MACARONI KID BOOTH (BOOTH #13) TO ENTER IN OUR RAFFLE FOR ONE MONTH OF FREE PILATES INSTRUCTION COURTESY OF THE STRONG BODY STUDIO IN AGOURA, FREE PASSES TO JUNGLELAND AND MORE!!
MACARONI KID GIVEAWAY ENDS THIS SUNDAY!!
Pilates, Jungleland, and more??
Don't forget to get your name in for our great giveaway! We will be able to have more than one winner with this giveaway. Not only will we be giving away ONE FREE MONTH OF UNLIMITED PILATES AT THE STRONG BODY STUDIO in Agoura Hills ($175.00 value!), we will also be giving away free passes and more courtesy of JUNGLELAND! And we might just have a few surprises to raffle off too! ;)
There are five ways to enter to win:
- The more friends you refer, the more entries you get! So it's easy--send an email to friends in your contact list with kids and suggest they become a subscriber to www.conejo-valley.macaronikid.com. Have them subscribe to Conejo Valley Macaroni Kid and put your full name down as the reason they have heard of us--you will both be entered to win!
- Become a fan of our Facebook Page: Go to our Facebook page and post what you love most about Macaroni Kid Conejo Valley! For extra entries, suggest us to your friends on Facebook and if they sign up to receive the newsletter and tell us who sent them, you both will be entered!
- Tweet with us! Follow us @MacKidConejo and tweet about us! And, if any of your followers sign up to receive the newsletter and tell us who sent them, you both will be entered!
- Even easier--send me an email to lisabg@macaronikid.com with email addresses of your friends, their town, and ages of kids (with their permission, of course!) and, again, you will both be entered to win.
- Come by our booth at Kidfest 2010 on March 20th and enter to win!

MACARONI KIDS LOVES PBS KIDS

MACARONI READ: ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ

Reading aloud to a child is important to their language development and builds a foundation for their future success as a reader. It's a magic moment when a child catches on to the connection between what their parent is reading and the words on the page of a book.
Strong reading skills make everything easier in the education world. And if your child becomes a strong reader it will in turn alleviate pressure when other subjects may present challenges. Children take to reading eagerly and naturally.
A little encouragement of this natural curiosity goes a long way - and the child does all the real work.
- Read to Your Child Everyday - it's important to be relaxed and unhurried. If time doesn't permit, bring books along where you go. Even if children are left to explore the books on their own, the fact that you bring books shows the child the importance of reading to you.
- Read and Re-Read - Be patient and read your child's favorites a few times, especially if they request them specifically. Kids are new to stories and when something catches them they want to relive it over and over again.
- Read it Right - Take the time to read the story well. Children know the difference. If you read without enthusiasm your child will lose interest and probably feel like he's putting you out. If reading becomes a chore or - worse yet - a source of stress, it will have reverse the desired effect.
- Choosing the Right Book - Take seriously what your child tells you about the books they like. You'll catch on pretty fast to their interests and you'll be able to guide their choices while respecting their tastes. Go to the library together. Let them respond to what they see and let them have a say in the decision.
- Build a Home Library - Think about collecting the classics; you might even discover a forgotten yearning in yourself for a long lost favorite. Give books a place of honor in your home. Teach your children to respect them and care for them.
