The Conejo Valley chapter of Mothers & More will host author Kristin Maschka, who will read from and discuss her new book, THIS IS NOT HOW I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE: Remodeling Motherhood to Get the Lives We Want Today. She explores the epiphany every mother has when the disconnect between “ideal family life” and real life becomes all too clear.  She will go below the surface of mothers’ everyday challenges to reveal the invisible, outdated assumptions about mothers, fathers, money, marriage and work that are out of sync with today’s families.  Maschka offers mothers a book that inspires with simple, concrete tools mothers can use to remodel motherhood for themselves, their families, and their future.

Macaroni Fun: Taste the Green!

top image

We all know the green food coloring tricks on St. Patrick's Day, green milk, green egg salad, green oatmeal....but what about all the naturally green foods and snacks?

This year try something different and let you children taste the green!

Here are some suggestions:

  • green apples
  • pickles green
  • grapes
  • celery
  • green beans
  • snap peas
  • kiwi
  • broccoli
  • honey dew melon

If you must use food coloring, try a bit in some lip gloss and send your little ones to school with a big green kiss!

Roger Day

Parents’ Choice® Gold winning musician Roger Day, renowned for his wit, whimsy, and wordplay, scales the pinnacle of braininess with his new CD, Why Does Gray Matter? … And Other Brainy Songs for Kids! To celebrate the new album, Roger will present his live Shake Up Your Brain! family show – comprised largely of material from Why Does Gray Matter? in two performances, at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 12 at the Scherr Forum Theater in Thousand Oaks Civic Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks, CA. These performances are part of the Conejo Valley Children’s Concert Series.

In the spirit of Schoolhouse Rock and Bill Nye, the Science Guy, Roger Day’s Shake Up Your Brain! show is devoted to the wonders and mysteries of the human brain, encouraging kids to “use their noodles” for creative problem solving and letting them know that it’s cool to be smart!  The show features such songs as “Brain Food – Eat it Up!” which uses omega 3, lypocene and green tea in a B-52s inspired rocker about the best foods for brain health.  The “Left Brain/Right Brain” song illustrates the different functions of each side of the brain: the left brain is a Bach-inspired baroque string quartet and the right brain – naturally – is a bad British punk rock band.

Roger is a great performer and the Conejo Valley Children’s Concert Series is a great way to support our local schools.
