Raise your hand if your family loves apples! 🙋‍♀️ If your family is like mine, apples are a household staple right along with bananas - but they keep longer and don't turn brown and yucky quite so fast.

Pick them up at the grocery store, find some at your local farmers market, or head out on an apple-picking adventure. However you get your apples, you're ready for some apple fun! I've gathered recipes we've shared over the years from the Macaroni KID Conejo Valley - Malibu - Calabasas website and put them all in one place for your convenience. From no-bake snacks to hot-out-of-the-oven desserts to STEAM fun, there's something for everyone.

And bonus: apples really are a nutritious choice, with fiber, antioxidants, and essential vitamins and minerals. They're a delicious and wholesome option for school lunches, afternoon snacks, or whenever someone needs a little something to eat. You know what they say about an apple a day!

Apples have been a family go-to snack for years - from when I was little, through my years in the office, to my days running around town with little ones in tow. Even today, they're still the go-to snack for my teen boys. One of my favorite things about apples is that they're pretty hearty on their own and less messy than crackers - who needs that mess in the car? Whole or sliced, they're perfect for a grab-and-go snack, and I don't even mind letting the kids eat them in the car. Just don't put a bag of apple slices in your purse and forget about them like I did . . . yuck!

Apples aren't just healthy and yummy - they're incredibly diverse! There are thousands of apple varieties grown around the world, with different colors, flavors, and textures. From the crisp and tangy Granny Smith to the sweet and aromatic Honeycrisp, there's an apple for just about every taste. What's your favorite?

Science Fun with Apples 🧪

Did you know apples float in water because about 25% of an apple is air? The air pockets in the apple's cellular structure help give it natural buoyancy. The next time you have an apple and some water nearby, test it out and impress your kids with your science know-how. And at Halloween, put that floating-apple science to the test with a classic game of bobbing for apples! 🍎

Apple Tasting Activity 😋

Apple tastings make a fun activity for all ages. Adjust the tasting to fit your group - for younger kids, keep it simple with four or five varieties. Collect several types of apples and include red, yellow, and green apples to make the display more interesting. Add cheese for a delicious pairing, or make it feel fancy with caramel or chocolate for dipping and sparkling apple cider to sip. No Tools Needed 🍏

One great thing about apples is that they're ready to eat as-is - just give them a good wash first! If you prefer them sliced or are following a recipe, an apple slicer, apple corer, or both can make things a whole lot easier.

Macaroni Tip: My favorite apple slicer is adjustable, so you can make thicker or thinner slices depending on what you're serving.

When my boys were little, we listened to a lot of fun kids' songs, and our all-time favorites were anything by Raffi. "Apples and Bananas" always put a smile on their faces - mine too! Even if your kids aren't so little anymore, they might enjoy it and dance along as the memories come flooding back.
