Monday, September 6, 2010: New Mothers Breastfeeding Support Groups

Bring your baby to these special groups to share and learn in a friendly supportive atmosphere. Discussions are facilitated by lactation consultants and broach many topics including postpartum adjustment, feeding, burping, sleeping, gas and colic, normal newborn behavior, soothing fussy babies and breastfeeding. Classes are organized by the age of your baby: 0-4 and 4-8 months. Expectant mothers are encouraged to attend a complimentary New Mothers Breastfeeding Support Group of the 0-4 month group prior to giving birth. Additionally, there is no charge for the first 0-4 month New Mothers Breastfeeding Support Group you attend with your baby.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010: Kids Club at the Sagebrush Cantina

The Sagebrush Cantina announces it will be hosting Tuesday night’s Kid’s Club, a local family community event offering free entertainment and activities geared toward families with kids ages 10 and under. The weekly Tuesday family night event offers activities such as face painting, gymnastics and disco dancing with a variety of featured entertainment which will include magic, reptiles, puppets, jugglers and bubble shows. During Kid’s Club the cantina offers families a Kids Eat Free special with one free child’s meal with every adult entrée ordered or a $3 kid’s special meal with drink. Kid’s Club runs from 4:30 – 7:30 pm, rain or shine. Kids Eat Free pricing runs from 4:00 pm until closing.

Looking for a prepared childbirth class series where both you and Dad-to-be, or your other birth partner, will feel welcome? This five-week series covers important information you both need for a clear understanding of the process of labor and birth. Classes include interactive lectures on anatomy, an overview of labor, nutrition during pregnancy, false versus true labor, preterm labor and warning signs, simulations of and videos on the birth process, and natural pain management techniques including breathing and relaxation. We will also cover medication options, cesarean birth, and normal newborn characteristics in an educational and engaging format.

The Thousand Oaks Teen Center, in cooperation with “Free Geek”, will be having an eWaste day on Saturday September 11,  in the Teen Center front parking lot. We’ll be collecting your old and broken electronics. Bring your TV’s (25” limit), computers (desktop & laptop), iPods, cell phones, stereos etc. Unfortunately we won’t be accepting appliances. This one day event will benefit the Teen Center. So please mark your calendar to remind yourself to drop off that old eWaste that’s taking up space in your garage. The Kids' Adventure Garden (KAG) was designed as an educational garden for children.  The KAG is part of the 33-acre Conejo Valley Botanic Garden.  The KAG provides an exciting place for children to learn about nature and gardening.  The garden features a tree house, zoo garden, carnivorous plant bog, nature trail and more.  Docents are available.  Free.  The KAG is also available for private birthday parties (reservations and donation required).  Walking shoes suggested.  Closed during inclement weather.
