Extra cool on those hot SoCal days, it’s also perfect to keep on hand for quick after-school snacks — a grab-and-go sweet treat between activities or before starting homework. Frozen Chocolate Dipped Bananas

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Freeze Time:  About 4 hours before dipping plus 15 minutes after

What you’ll need

Quantities can be adjusted based on your family size. Making extra is a great idea — these are sure to become a favorite anytime snack!

Supplies:

  • 6 Popsicle sticks
  • Waxed paper or parchment paper
  • Bowls for toppings

Ingredients

  • 3 or more bananas - depending on size you might need more
  • 8 ounces of chocolate chips - try dark chocolate for a healthier option , or switch it up with white chocolate or other flavors of chips
  • Optional toppings: granola, chopped nuts, shredded coconut or crispy rice cereal

Macaroni Tip:  

Consider doubling or tripling the batch - these frozen chocolate dipped bananas are sure to be a favorite go-to snack all year, especially in summer!


Preparation:

  1. Cut bananas crosswise into thirds to create six substantial chunks. Adjust based on banana size.
  2. Insert a Popsicle stick through the cut end of each banana piece.
  3. Arrange the banana pieces on a tray, cover with plastic wrap or place in an airtight container, and freeze about 4 hours until firm.
  4. Melt the chocolate chips on the stove with a double boiler, stirring frequently until smooth or in the microwave, be sure to use a microwave-safe bowl.
  5. Once the bananas are frozen, dip each piece in melted chocolate or spread the chocolate on with a spoon.
  6. Roll or sprinkle the chocolate-covered banana in your choice of toppings, then place them on a piece of waxed paper or parchment.
  7. Return the bananas to the freezer for about 15 minutes until the chocolate is set and ready to serve.
