Macaroni Made: Patriotic Rocket

By Evonne Umbel, Macaroni Kid South Hills publisher June 28, 2012

My kids love when we run out of toilet paper or paper towels because it means they can make something with the roll. In honor of the Fourth of July, we decided to use up some of our toilet paper rolls to make patriotic rockets.

What you need:

  • Toilet paper tube (or a paper towel tube cut down to size)
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue
  • Ribbon

What you do:

1. Cut a piece of construction paper to measure 5 x 6 inches. Tape one of the 5 inch tall side to the tube, wrap it around to cover and tape the other end in place.

2. You should have some construction paper hanging over one end of the tube. Cut strips around and fold to form flaps.

3. Using another color of construction paper, cut out a circle. You can use a large can or something similar in size to trace a circle if need be. Cut your circle out and cut a line all the way to the center.

4. Wrap one of the ends you just cut in the circle to form a cone. Place the cone on top of the flaps and tape or glue together.

5. Take pieces of ribbon and tape them inside the tube on the opposite side of the cone.

6. ENJOY!!!
