This is one of my favorite Thanksgiving crafts. I remember my daughter bringing one home for me from preschool and we made them for the grandparents when we couldn't spend the holiday together. It's neat to look back on the ones from years past to see how much the kids have grown. Make a turkey for each member of the family each year and hang as Thanksgiving decorations!
Materials needed:
- construction paper: brown, red, yellow and orange
- scissors
- glue
- googly eyes
What to do:
- Trace the child's handprints on the red, yellow and orange construction papers, two per color, and cut them out. These will be the turkey's feathers/tail.
- Trace the child's foot on a brown piece of construction paper and cut it out. This will make the turkey's body.
- Arrange the hands in a fan shape to form the tail and glue to the back of the foot cutout, with the heel at the top as the turkey's head. Note: I have also seen this made with two foot cutouts on top of each other but just slightly offset at the bottom.
- Cut out the turkey's beak and feet out of orange construction paper and a red waddle. Glue in place along with googly eyes. Don't forget to sign and date the back to hold on to as a keepsake!
