A Fun Independence Day Craft Using Household Items

By Courtney Lewis, Mac Kid Santa Monica Publisher Mom June 29, 2024

Are you looking for a fun family craft to get in the spirit to celebrate Independence Day? These 4th of July Rockets were fun and easy to make. There are so many items you can use from around the house to make these fun and colorful rockets. After we finished, the kids went on a hunt for items and supplies we could use to make more rockets tomorrow. Take a peek in your recycling bin to complete this kid craft.

Rocket Craft

Supplies needed:

  • Paper towel, toilet paper or wrapping paper rolls
  • Paper- We used wrapping paper - old Xmas & Hanukkah paper works perfect, but construction / craft paper would be cute too or you could also paint the rolls.
  • A heavier paper for the top
  • Tape or glue
  • String if you want to hang
  • Any other fun embellishments: Ribbon, Stickers, Glitter, Paint, Candy, Tissue paper

Directions:

  1. Cover your cardboard roll with the paper and tape or glue the sides down
  2. Cut your thicker heavier paper into a large circle, then cut a line to the midpoint of the circle and twist the paper to make a cone.
  3. Glue or tape the cone to the top - If you want to hang yours attach the wire or string before putting the cone on.
  4. Cut streamers out or use tissue paper or ribbon to make "flames" for the bottom and tape them in.

Macaroni tip:  You could add a little bag of candy or special treat inside, or tape a straw or dowel inside to give it a handle.

Have fun - The sky is the limit on creativity with this!
