Yummy Green Smoothie
Ingredients
- 8 oz unsweetened almond milk
- 1 banana
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 avocado
- 2 tablespoons almond or other nut butter
- 3 oz tofu
- 2 tablespoons flaxseed
- 1 handful of spinach, kale or both
- 4 ice cubes
Make it your own:
This recipe is plant-based as written, but feel free to change it up to suit your family's tastes and use what you have on hand. Swap the almond milk or tofu for dairy if that's your preference, and experiment with different fruits, greens, nuts and seeds.
- Make it tangy by swaping the tofu for plain or vanilla yogurt.
- Use fresh or frozen fruit and greens.
- Freeze chunks of banana for a colder, thicker smoothie.
- Change the flavor with mango, pineapple or other fruits.
- Add berries - but know it may no longer be visibly green. That might be a good thing!
- Add a little honey, extra banana or dates for more sweetness.
- Try different nuts, like cashews, walnuts or pecans.
- Add hemp seeds.
- Using frozen ingredients? Feel free to skip the ice cubes. If you're adding lots of frozen ingredients, you may need a little extra liquid to help everything blend smoothly.
Directions
- Place all ingredients in a blender, starting with the liquids, then soft and last add the ice and frozen ingredients.
- Blend for about one minute.
- Pour into a glass and enjoy!
Macaroni Tip
Short on time? Make the smoothie ahead and pour it into shaker containers so your family can grab and go on busy mornings or afternoons. Double or triple the recipe depending on the size of your blender.
St. Patrick's Day Tip: Looking for something green for St. Patrick's Day? This smoothie makes an easy, naturally green treat without adding food coloring.
