May Day is Celebrated on May 1st, the holiday is thought to have originated in Roman times as a festival of flowers. One of the most common customs for celebrating this day is by making small baskets filled with flowers and even a few treats to share.

No fresh flowers? No problem flowers here is a way you can make your own flowers out of felt so you can fill your baskets and enjoy them throughout the month of May!

Make a May Basket
Things You Need
  • A full sheet - at least 8 1/2 x11 of spring colored or patterned paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape and/or a stapler
  • Felt Flowers - see below for the how to, candy or other trinkets to fill the basket

  • Roll together into a cone shape and tape to hold in place.
  • Cut a 10-12" strip of paper for the handle. Staple each end to opposite sides of the cone.
  • Fill the cone with flowers and treats before delivering to a neighbor or using them to decorate your house

How To Create Felt Flowers:

  • Cut heart shapes out of felt. You will need 2-4 hearts per flower. These hearts are about 2" but you can vary sizes.
  • Make a small cross with the hot glue at the bottom of a heart.
  • Place a branch on the cross of glue with the tip of the branch coming up to the point at the top of the heart and wrap the felt around the branch.
