By Macaroni KID Conejo Valley - Malibu - Calabasas September 8, 2024

Each year on September 11th we commemorate the anniversary of the events of 9/11. Here are local, virtual and at home options for your family to honor and remember the heroes and lives lost on 9/11.

Here are two local options for Conejo Valley - Malibu - Calabasas families to remember:

The first is at Pepperdine in Malibu in Alumni Park along Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road where you can drive to and view the the Waves of Flags. This installation pays tribute to the 2,977 lives lost in the 9/11 terror attacks. Flags will be displayed from September 7–27, 2024 featuring 2,887 American flags for each American life lost and 90 international flags representing the home countries of those from abroad.

The Waves of Flags installation became a University tradition in 2008 when the Pepperdine College Republicans, inspired by a similar display, wanted to bring the tribute to the University.

The second 9/11 events are where all local firehouses host a Remembrance Ceremony at the firehouses. It is a very short ceremony and very early in the morning.
