The shofar has a sound like no other instrument!
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, will begin this Wednesday evening, October 2, 2024
Among the beautiful traditions of dipping apples in honey, symbolizing a sweet new year, and eating exotic fruit that puts us in touch with the newness of this brand new year, is the custom of hearing the shofar, a simple ram's horn, that is typically blown in the synagogue.
It's a moment in time that transcends words; it can only be captured by the primal sound of the shofar that tells a story of gratitude, regret for last year's mistakes, hope for better in the coming year, sorrow, and joy. It is a time to reflect not only on what we want this new year to bring to us, but on what we can contribute to this new year; filling G-d's desires and others' needs.
Our services are refreshingly casual, joyous, and uplifting. Services will be led by Rabbi Bryski who will accompany the prayer service with ongoing commentary interspersed with inspirational stories, humor, spiritual meditations and practices, it is sure to be a wonderful experience for both children and adults.
Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services will be held at Chabad of Thousand Oaks: 1515 El Monte Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA.
