Description
Celebrate the 318th birthday of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin at the International Printing Museum in Carson, CA on Saturday, January 20! This special event runs 10am to 4pm. Throughout the day, there will be special tours of the Museum that highlight Ben Franklin’s life as a printer. Attendees will also be able to print colonial-era keepsakes, including the Declaration of Independence. At 12:15 pm, everyone will be treated to a slice of birthday cake and a cup of colonial punch! Dr. Franklin himself will welcome guests to the Heritage Theatre for a very special performance of the "Inventive Ben Franklin" at 11am (all ages) and 1pm (adults only).
Following each show, guests can participate in a short Question & Answer session with both Dr. Franklin and noted children’s author Gretchen Woelfle, who has recently published How Benjamin Franklin became a Revolutionary in Seven Steps (Calkins Creek, 2023). Gretchen Woelfle first began to engage with the extraordinary life and legacy of Benjamin Franklin while working at the Papers of Benjamin Franklin at Yale University. Since then, she has become an award-winning author of books for young readers. She is most curious – some would say nosy – about people who do extraordinary things. Her other biographies include A Take-Charge Girl Blazes a Trail to Congress: The Story of Jeannette Rankin and Mumbet's Declaration of Independence.
General admission is $10/person. Children under age 4 are free. Reservations are required for the two special performances (11am for General Audiences; 1pm for Adults Only). Seating is limited in the Theatre. Guests are encouraged to arrive at least an hour before their showtime to explore the Museum.
