Juneteenth commemorates the day when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 and announced not only the end of the Civil War, but that all enslaved people in the state were free, marking a significant milestone in the fight against slavery. It's long been celebrated in the African American community, with family and friends and now its significance continues to grow now that Juneteenth National Independence Day was designated a U.S. Federal holiday in 2021. Everyone can join in this important and historical celebration of Freedom in America.
