Experience the magic of the holidays with this year’s theme inspired by Perry Como’s 1954 hit “Home for the Holidays.” Volunteers and docents share global traditions and celebrations, bringing the joy of home to life through Menorah lightings, tree decorations, family recipes, ugly holiday sweaters, and more.

Dining Room Extravaganza: Admire eight stunning holiday table settings in the Dining Room, each showcasing unique traditions from different eras, beautifully crafted by our talented volunteers.
Daytime and Nighttime Festivities: Enjoy festive sights and sounds throughout the Museum complex, with daytime activities and three enchanting nighttime celebrations. Don’t forget to visit Santa and his reindeer!

Join us for a magical evening of fun! Enjoy Christmas themed crafts, activities, and a fun holiday walk through the Botanic Garden. The walking path will be lit up and decorated with Christmas decorations, and Santa will be at the end of the walk to greet children for photos! Boat Parades

Oak Park Holiday Boat Parade

Also known in the Oak Park community as "The Boat Parade!" this neighbor-organized, volunteer-run parade can be viewed on select streets throughout Oak Park. The parade starts from its staging area at Oak Park High School on Kanan Road, rain or shine. Participants have been known to toss out small candies or toys — so be ready! While I can’t make any promises, every year we’ve watched, Santa has made a special appearance. Either way, you won’t be disappointed.

My family and I look forward to this event every year, my kids even bring their Halloween pumpkins to gather their candy loot. I will share a little secret; our favorite place to watch the parade go by is from Deerhill Road near the park because the parade goes by twice. Depending on the weather you may need to grab your warmest coat and maybe an umbrella and enjoy this merry holiday tradition. Annually on the Sunday before Christmas, but not Christmas Eve.
