Labor Day

September 2th

Bid farewell to summer in style with a Labor Day celebration. A day dedicated to honoring the contributions of hardworking Americans, it's also the perfect opportunity to spend the day enjoying good company, delicious food, and toasting a summer well spent. Since this annual holiday is always on a Monday it's a three day weekend for many and it can be a chance to spend time with family / friends, for a laid-back end-of-summer BBQ, go on a picnic, head to the beach or take a hike, lol.

National Grandparents Day

September 8th

Grandparents are special. If your children's grandparents are local, spend time showing them just how important they truly are to your family.

If they aren't local, plan ahead and send a handmade card and a hug: Simply tape together a few pieces of newspaper or use the white side of wrapping paper and outline your child with their arms outstretched. Let your kids color themselves in. Fold it up, put it in an envelope and send that hug to grandma!

National Day of Prayer and Remembrance | Patriot Day | National Day of Service

September 11th

National Days of Prayers and Remembrance is a time for us to pause to remember the somber events of September 11, 2001, and pay tribute to the heroes who emerged from the tragedy. This day invites us to reflect on our resilience as a nation and express gratitude to the first responders who put their lives on the line for our safety every day. Let's also take a moment to honor the memories of the innocent lives lost to the attacks on September 11, 2001.

September 11th, 2001 changed our Nation, and the World forever. Patriot day and National Day of Service is a chance for us to help others and pay tribute to those killed and injured on 9/11, all the first responders and civilians who risked their lives to help others on that day and the days that followed not to mention the brave men and women who served to protect this country afterwards.

If you are looking for ways to support the American Military visit For the Troops website, they are a local organization in Simi Valley. For the Troops sends "we care" packages to those serving in the American Military. There are many ways you can help; make a direct donation, donate items for care packages - download the troops wish list, writing letters, cards or drawing pictures all are perfect opportunities to involve your kids. You can do this anytime of the year. They really love to include cards, letters and drawings from children to make their "we care" packages extra special.

National Fortune Cookie Day

September 13th

Now who doesn’t love fortune cookies? I’m not sure what’s more exciting—the yummy Chinese food, the just-sweet-enough crunchy cookie, or the anticipation of the fortune tucked neatly inside. National Fortune Cookie Day is a great excuse to celebrate! Interestingly, this holiday seems to pop up on two different days, so why not celebrate twice? Don’t be surprised if you see this tasty holiday again in July.

And here’s a fun fact: this delicious treat enjoyed after your Chinese food isn’t actually from China. The fortune cookie we know and love was created in California in the early 1900s by Japanese immigrants, either in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or maybe both. It was inspired by similar cookies from Japan dating back to the 1800s.

Celebrate National Fortune Cookie Day with your family by making your own! It’s a great way to remind your loved ones how special they are. Our recipe is quick, easy, and inexpensive—just the way we like it! Enjoy some fun in the kitchen and create memorable moments with homemade fortune cookies.
